Curriculum | The philosophy of education at HSDM is that dentistry is a specialty of medicine. In keeping with this belief, medical and dental students study together in the New Pathway curriculum at Harvard Medical School during the first two years. Dental clinical instruction occurs in treatment teams that utilize a comprehensive approach to patient care. Both didactic and clinical courses are taught by problem-based method of study and discussion in small tutorial groups. In this approach, cases based on actual clinical records or investigative problems are utilized to set the learning objectives. Students learn critical thinking and problem-solving techniques that will equip them for lifelong learning in the field of dental medicine. Students also take courses in research and complete a research project, thesis and formal presentation over the course of the four-year training period. |
