Curriculum | The goal of the dental curriculum is to graduate a dentist in four years who is capable of entering into dental practice. Graduates of this program will be able to do the following: 1) prevent, diagnose and treat oral disease; 2) understand biological, physical and social sciences and apply that knowledge in performing appropriate prevention, diagnosis and treatment; 3) develop and apply personal and professional skills to practice effectively and relate to patients and colleagues; 4) recognize professional capabilities and judiciously refer patients for specialty care; and 5) continue to acquire knowledge through patterns of lifelong study. Basic science instruction occurs in the first and second years of the program. Basic science information is reinforced by clinical faculty in such courses as systemic disease, and oral and organ pathology, as well as by traditional clinical disciplines as appropriate. |
