CurriculumThe UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy
offers the doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree
as well as graduate degrees (M.S., Ph.D.)
in pharmaceutical sciences with concentrations
in molecular pharmaceutics, medicinal
chemistry and natural products, pharmacotherapy
and experimental therapeutics,
and pharmaceutical outcomes and policy. A
masters of pharmacy with specialization in
hospital pharmacy systems is also available.
In addition, postgraduate training in the form
of pharmacy-practice residencies, specialty
residencies, drug-development fellowships,
and pharmacokinetic fellowships is available.
The foundation of the doctor of pharmacy
curriculum is pharmaceutical care. UNC’s
curriculum is interdisciplinary with emphasis
on both the scientific foundations and the
clinical applications of knowledge. In addition
to enrolling 140 students each year on
the Chapel Hill campus, 10 to 15 students
are enrolled at the Elizabeth City State University
satellite campus and 20-30 students
are enrolled at the Asheville satellite campus.

be eligible for admission to the University
of North Carolina. Applicants are selected
on a competitive basis based on scholarship,
character, industry, Pharmacy College
Admissions Test (PCAT) scores, and an
interview. Note that all math and science
prerequisites must be completed with a
grade of “C-” or better prior to beginning
the professional program, although they need
not be completed at the time the application
is submitted.
Selected candidates are interviewed by faculty
and alumni. The Admissions Committee is
most impressed by applicants who have demonstrated
motivation, professional attitudes
and behaviors, and exploration of the pharmacy
field in addition to academic excellence (minimum GPA considered is a 2.8). Every
effort is made to encourage the enrollment of
students with a variety of cultural, economic
and social backgrounds.
Applications are accepted only for fall semester
and the deadline is November 1 of
the preceding year. Applications are available
through the PharmCAS system. Completion
